The Great Region Of LA Rioja Spain

Many things come to mind when we hear Spain, but at the mention of La Rioja, the very first thing is the wine that bears this brand name. Actually, the two are connected as it is a brand whose origin is this area. La Rioja is a small community that is autonomous in the country of Spain. It is on Basque’s southern side and very near the Ebro Valley. Though a small region, la Rioja is a great place to be on holiday.

The capital of la Rioja is called Logrono. It is the center for economical and geographical administration in the region. It also has several things that you will find quite fascinating.

The area of Haro sees a lot of production of wine. It is a very popular place and many people flock here every year for wine tasting. There is also an event that actually attracts a lot of people. It happens once within a year. It is an event that is basically fighting with wine. People usually head out to the location of the wine battle mainly dressed in white. They flock in their thousands and then the battle begins. When people come out of this region, the originally white garments are soaked in red wine. It is an event worth a try especially if you love having fun.

The great Way of St. James also passes partly through this region. It is an area of la Rioja that you should visit while in the region. There are many monasteries here with high artistic significance as well as historic and cultural imprints. The first Castilian Spanish words were written here.

The great pilgrimage route holds unbelievable beauty especially at areas where there are towns. Most of the towns here were the work of the Romans and though they have been standing for a long time, they are still very attractive and beautiful.

The Tierra De Cameros area is another great place. The landscapes here are so thrilling that you will be dazed as you pass by. There are also grottos and great caves in this region. It is totally worth your time.

If you are a person who is deeply interested in rural tourism, la Rioja is your region of choice. It is a place where you can engage in activities such as hiking, hunting, climbing as well as fishing.

You can also enjoy wine and great food in la Rioja. There are seven wine varieties produced in this region alone thus you will have a great time testing each over an easy holiday.
